Clyde, schooner, 102 tons, Thomas, tor Aknroa. Master, agent. The s.s., Albion arrived this morning for Port Chalmers. The barqna signalled last night was not to ho Been this morning. She was probably beating to the northward. Last Saturday night the schooner Alert, bound hence to Napier, ran into Worser Bay in consequence of tbe strong head wind blowing. The tally clerks on the Queen’s Wharf, Wellington, says the “ Post.” have applied to receive their usual bonus, notwithstanding that goods to the ▼alne of £l9O have been lost and their bonus is conditional on the absence of losses. They urge, however, that £l9O is not n large loss considering that goods to the value of nearly £2,500,000 passed through their hands during the year, and that as they were not responsible for the loss of the goods they ought not to suffer for it. The wharf committee have decided to recommend the Council to pay the bonns this time bat not in future, increasing the salaries instead. THE UNION STEAMSHIP COMPANY. The expected additions to the Union Steamship Company’s fine fleet of steamers consists ofThe Tarawera, the Rotomahann, and the Te Auan. The two last named are now vessels, now being finished by the builders, Messrs Denny Bros,, on the Clyde. They are to the special <>rder of the company, and will bo put into the intercolonial trade. The Rotomahann will be the largest and most powerful of the fleet, her gross tonnage being stated at 1800, and of 2000 indicated horse power. The plan of the steamer, at the company’s office, shows her to have accommodation for 100 saloon and 70 second class passengers, the saloon cabins having but two berths in each. A social hall, a smoking room, and a bridal chamber are among the specialities provided on her spar deck. The Rotomahann is expected to leave Loudon for Melbourne and New Zealand early in August. The Te Anan will follow her probably a month later. Her registered tonnage, 1600, and power, 1500 horse power, place her in the front rank of the company’s vessels, and she is to be finished like the Rotoraahana, after the style of the highest class of passenger steamers afloat. The Tarawera is similar in appearance to the Ha won and Tanpo, all three being of the same model. She left Glasgow on the 2 tth of May, and may therefore be looked for to arrive during next mouth, after which ■he is to run in the coastal service. It is thus seen that the company are sparing no expense to meet the increasing business, coastal and intercolonial, in the carrying trade, and maintain the reputation of the ** red funnel " boats as a first-class passenger line.
