NATIVE AND DEFENCE INTELLIGENCE.
[By Tbibqbapk.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Juno 10. Seventy-three volunteers were sworn in at Manutahi North yesterday. The general arming 'of tho district is producing a salutary effect on tho Native mind. Some of the more sensible Natives admit that they do not know the reason of tho ploughing. A great meeting is to be held at Parihaka, at which Europeans will bo permitted to be present. WELLINGTON, June 10. Another little Maori disturbance is reported from the Manawatu, in which tho work of tho Government surveyors was stopped. The offenders will be proceeded against. The Stella brought another batch of twentytwo recruits for New Plymouth to-day, who, after receiving such drill as may be thought sufficient, will bo forwarded either to Hawora or some other station in Taranaki district. Unusual activity is observable at tho Mount Cook barracks now, batches of men being daily put through their drill.
