THE "STAR" AND BURNS.
To the Editor of the Globe. Sie, —I am much averse to writing to the newspapers, and it is only under a sense of duty that I do bo in the present instance ; but really, Sir, when your evening contemporary last night quoted, or rather mis-q uoted, in his leading article, a Terse from Burns, I cannot resist the temptation of pointing out to the said literary luminary, who evidently knows little of our national poet, the error into which he has fallen. The lines to which I allude are given in the "Star" as follows : " As cauld as win' as ever blew, As cauld a Kirk, au' in't but few, As cauld a Minister as over spak— Ye'll aw be het o'tr I be back ! " I have not my copy of Burns by me, but can trnst to my memory for the correct rendering of the verse, which is as follows : "A cauld cauld day December blew, A cauld cauld kirk, ancl in't but few, A caulder minister ne'er spak; He's warmer be ere I gae back." In conclusion I would advise Pressmen, when quoting from one of the brightest of poets, to endeavor to do so correctly, as oven in the "Cathedral City," there are not a few of his admirers, who do not caro to sec his lines so distorted. Yours, &a, A SCOTCHMAN.
