SPECIAL TO THE OLOBJV. LONDON, Juno 7. Mr Lessops promises to commence tlio Panama Canal on the Ist of January, 1880. Tho capital -will be sixteen million. Soloviotf lias been sentenced to death, and will be executed to-day. The Homeward mails via San Francisco were delivered to-day. Consols are at 97|-. At a Conservative meeting at Buiy, on the Ist, tho Lord of the Admiralty absolutely denied that there was any difiorence of opinion between the British and French Governments in reference to the Egyptian question. He condemned the policy of the Khedive, but England and Franco had resolved, notwithstanding, to act quietly and safely without precipitation. The news from Capo Town to May 19th, states that Oetewayo had made proposals for peace, but that negotiations have failed in consequence of the refusal of tho British authorities to accept any terms but unconditional surrender. It is believed that Cotewayo and his whole forces are at the Lower Tugela. LONDON, June 5. Hops have advanced to Bs, The Liberals are active, and confident o success at tho coming elections. THE ZULU WAR. Lord Chelmsford considers tho war as finished. Cetewayo has sent a chief asking for and has admitted that ho had lost the youngest and bravest of his warriors. Negotiations continue. [reuter’s telegrams.] LONDON, June 5. The wool market is strong, with a hardening tendency. Juno 6. There is to be a now trial in the celebrated Bagot case. England and Franco have finally declined to interfere in tho administration of the Egyptian Government. Tho British Consul-General at Cairo energetically protested against the arbitrary proceedings of tho Khedive.
