OKAIN’S BAY ROAD BOARD.

A special mooting ot the Okain’s Bay Road Board was held in the library, Okain’s Bay, on Saturday last, 31st ult., the members present being Messrs Barker (chairman), Barnett, Boleyn, and Callaghan. Tho special meeting had been called to consider what steps the Board should lake in reference to a mistake made by the chairman in the measurement of the Okain’s Bay now main road. It appears that at ft previous meeting of the Board, Mr Barker, tho chairman, had been appointed to measure up and settle with the contractor, Mr Konny, for the work done on the road in question. After Mr Kenny had received payment, it was discovered that an error of twenty chains and seventy-five links had been made against tho Board, amounting to £145 Is 9d, This sum the contractor wished to retain, as certain culverts in the road had been short paid for to the amount of £260. The Board held that tho contractor had boon overpaid in tho original account for culverts, and refused to recognise the claim. On the motion’ of Mr Callaghan, seconded by Mr Barnett, it was resolved—“ That the chairman be requested to refund to the Board the amount of £145 Is 9d, being the sum overpaid contractor on new main Okain’s Bay road contract.” The motion was carried, Mr Boleyn not voting.
