The vital statistics for Christchurch and district during the month of March were aa follows: —Births, city 40, district 118 ; marriages, city 29, district 7; deaths, city 26, district 35. During May, 1878, the deaths were —city 20, district 29. The following table gives the births and deaths during the last six months : Month. Births. Deaths.
It will be seen from the above that during last month the deaths were fewer by five than during any of the months named.
