CHBI H T G If U R C H. Tuesday, May 27. [Before C. Whitofoord, Esq., R.M.] Drunk and Disorderly. —Five offenders wore lined 5s each, and two experienced topers 10s.
Wilful Destruction op Property.— William Wallace was charged with wilfully breaking a pane of glass, value Bs, I lie pro perty of Reuben Collins. The defendant did the damage while being coveyed to the Police Depot in a state of drunkenness. Ho was fined ss, and ordered to pay the amount of the damage. Indecent Exposure.— Timothy O’Leary was charged with indecently exposing his person in a public place. He was fined 40s, or in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment.
LYTTELTON. Tuesday, May 27. [Before J. T. Rouse and H. Allwright, Eeqs., J.P.’s.] No Boors to Wear. —Alexander Gunn, a seaman belonging to the barque Coromandel from Glasgow, was brought up on remind, charged with having refused duty. Tho chief officer of tho Coromandel testified that on Monday morning last the accused left the afterhold, and went forward into the forecastle, and when asked to turn to refused. The master, Captain Hundry, said that the man had complained to him that he was in need of a pair of boots, but he had seen tho accused ashore with a pair on. Tho prisoner, who was barefooted, said that it was impossible for him to work among the cargo in the hold without shoes, and he had therefore refused. He had applied to the captain to supply him with a pair, but he would not give them him. Tho Bench asked whether there was sufficient money due to the man to pay for a pair of boots, and being answered in the affirmative ordered the prisoner to go on board, and advised the captain to furnish him with a pair of boots.
