SOUTH CANTERBURY COURSING CLUB MEETING.
[Press Specissl Wire.] TIMARU, May 21. The first meeting of the South Canterbury Coursing Club commenced on Tuesday, and was concluded to-day. Owing to tho meeting being held at Mount Peel there was a small attendance. Hares were very plentiful, but the beating being bad only eicrht courses were run on the first day. The following are results of the first courses : Mr Thompson's Balmoral beat Mr Charters' Livingstone Maid. Mr Mitchell's Spring ran a bye. Mr Denong's Smoker beat Mr Guinness' Old Smoker. Mr Kennedy's Bess beat Mr Tumbril's Coronet. Mr Thompson's Temuka beat Mr Ronayne s Ktthleen. Mr Thompson's Richmond beat Mr Burrow* Manchester. Mr Thompson's Towley beat Mr MacPberson's Chance. Mr Thompson's Speculation ran a bye. First Ties. Balmoral beat Spring. Bess beat Smoker. Richmond beat Towley Speculation ran a bye SECOND TIES. Balmoral beat Bess As the three dogs left in the stakes were the prope ty of Mr Thompson, of Temuka, he sent Richmond to run a bye, so that be might divide the first and second money with Balmoral. The money altogether amounted to .£2l. Speculation and Bess, the 3rd and 4th dogs, took £2 10s each. The Consolation Stakes of .£5 was won by Mr Bnrrowes' Manchester.
