LYTTELTON. TIIUIiSD/T "MiAT 22 [Before T. H. Potts and H. Allwright, Esqs.] Refusing to Wobtl—Peter Warren, was charged with refusing to work on board the barque Orient. Captain Anton said he asked the accused to go and help to mend the sails. He refused, Baying he was not able. A medical certificate had been given by the Health Officor of the port, to the effect that accused was unable to do but light work. The man, in defence, said that he was willing to work, but he had tried to mend the Bails, and found that his legs were unable to bear the weight of them, and the Btrain of dragging the sail across his knees caused him most severe pain. The captain said sail-mending was light work. The Bench ordered the man to be returned to the vessel, and cautioned him against disobeying the orders of the officers on board.
