The Anfierson-Eashy Case.

The adjourned case against Henry Anderson, of the “Chronicle,” for assaulting Easby, blind maker, came on again this morning. The case for the prosecution having concluded, counsel for the defence proposed that the magistrate should hear the cross action entered by Anderson before dealing with the case, but Mr Mansford said that no matter what were the features of the other case, the evidence in the case was sufficient to wairant him in committing the prisoner, which was accordingly done, Anderson reserved his defence. The cross action is now proceeding.

An inquest on the body of William Payne, who died from injuries received in a boat accident on the beach, was held to-day. A verdict of accidental death was returned, but a rider was added censuring the landing service for leaving the boat on the beach against which deceased was crushed.

The remains of William Henry Ostler, who was found dead in his bed at his residence, Ben Ohou station, McKenzie Country, last Monday morning, were brought into town to-day. The post mortem examination showed that deceased died from rupture of a bloodvessel close to the heart, and the verdict of the coroner’s jury was in accordance with the medical testimony. Edward Hart, who was found on the beach exhausted from loss of blood a few days ago, still lives, bub is in a very precarious condition.

Nominations for the South Canterbury Coursing Club, All-aged Stakes, have been postponed until Monday next.
