THE GOVERNOR’S VISIT.
To the Editor of the (Hole, Sib, —All must admit that his Worship has been very energetic in his welcome to his Excellency. But it will be admitted that he has overlooked shewing one sight to Sir Hercules. It is unique, and far exceeds in interest anything else submitted to the Governor. Had it occurred to his Worship to ask Sir Hercules to sit by his Mayoral chair during a meeting of the City Council, his Excellency might have carried away a remembrance of Christchurch far surpassing in intrinsic interest all the other sights put together, even including the billiard-room of the Terminus Hotel. The Mayor s selfsatisfied sauvity and general all round acquaintance with affairs and rules of debate, Mr Wilson’s Demosthenic fury, &0., &c. All these things would have afforded a rich treat for his Excellency, and have imprinted on his mind a very fixed recollection of his visit. But considering the overwhelming strain on the Mayor’s thoughts on so momentous an occasion as the Governor’s visit. His Worship will, I am sure, be fully pardoned his omission. Yours, &c., Citizen.
