NEW CALEDONIAN INTELLIGENCE.
[By Telegraph.] AUCKLAND, Mar 5. The French man-of-war Lamothe Piqueti bringß New Caledonian news to April 15th. The revolt, an account of which was received a short time ago at Sydney, was quelled. Large numbers of the revolting tribes laid down their arms and surrendered, some of the ringleaders lied to the mountains, and others were hanged or shot. The stringent measures taken by the authorities have had a salutary effect. Some disturbances have taken place at Poya, but in all cases the rebels have been defeated with great loss of life. Whon the Lamothe Piqueti left the settlers, who had forsaken the plantations, were returning to their business, and matters were generally assuming a brighter aspect. Fighting still continued among the Natives in some district s, but active measures had been taken to prevent any further revolt.
