The latest betting was 5 to 4 Timothy, 3 to 1 Warlock, 5 to 1 Jarto, 6 to 1 Device, 7 to 1 Electricity. After one break away the horses were despatched to a fair start, Moonlight cutting out the running, followed by Electricity, Warlock, Cowarie, and Device, the rest in a cluster. Coming up the straight and past the stand for the first time, Moonlight led by a length or more, the four named close upon his heels, Jarto and Viceroy being in near attendance, Timothy and Banter a length or two awayj and Glenburn as wbipper in. At the mile post Moonlight had increased his lead by two or three lengths, his opponents being well together, excepting Glenburn. Electricity and Device were here struggling for second place, with Warlock inside. At the three-quarter mile Banter {began to come up, followed closely by Jarto, Device, Timothy, and Warlock. Electricity at this point fell back, while Viceroy and Cowarie followed Glenburn’s example, and dropped out of the running. Banter soon passed Moonlight, who very gamely disputed every inch of ground, and the chesnut was obliged to give way successively to Jarto, Timothy, and Device. For some distance Jarto struggled bard with Banter for the lead, Timothy also challenging both, and Device being a respectable fourth. Banter, however, was seen to have a clear lead entering the straight, and the result apJieared clear, as he passed the winning post eading by six lengths, Jarto second, Timothy third, Warlock, Device, Moonlight, Electricity, Cowarie, Glenbura, and Viceroy finishing in the order named.
