EASTERN INTELLIGENCE.

[Via Wellington.] [Press Special Wire.] Singapore, March 29. The British barque Benclutha has been totally lost while on a voyage from Shanghai to Chefow. Sir Thomas Wade, her Majesty’s Minister to China, arrived at Hong Kong from Calcutta on the 10th inst. The British ship, Golden Spur, has been abandoned on a bank near Haipong, on which she struck while being towed out of port with a cargo of rice to Towron. The Vicar Apostolic of Shanghai reports that great distress still exists in that province, and in a letter to the Belgian Consul at Chefow he solicits further assistance. The Hacka insurgents have resumed the offensive, and have inflicted another defeat upon the Imperial troops. They have also captured a mandarin. Mr Arnold Hagin, the mining expert engaged to explore the mineral resources of North China, has reported unfavorably of his explorations in South-western Chipli, His examinations in other directions are to be made subsequently for Shanghai. An 8 per cent, silver loan to the amount of £1,787,000 for the Chinese Government is invited by the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporations. The loan is specially secured by the hypothecation of the Customs revenue of the ports of Shanghai, Foo Chow, Canton, Ningpo, and Hankow, A woollen mill factory has been established at Sanchowfu, and the machinery, which is of German manufacture, has arrived at Shanghai. Eighteen horses from Western Australia sold by auction averaged £29 each. The Dutch Government has raised the blockade of the ports of Acheen, except for contraband of war. Three Siamese noblemen proceed to England to offer her Majesty’s acceptance of the highest order of Siam.
