THE SEAMEN’S UNION.
To the Editor of the Globe, Sie,—ln behalf of the seamen of Canter* bury, allow me to pass a few remarks on the proceedings of the meeting of the Seamen’s Union, held in the Oddfellows’ Hall last night. After nearly an hour’s patiently waiting, during which a great many members went away, we wore honored with the presence of the president, by whom, after a rather selfish and and an abrupt apology, the meeting was opened. Now, at the last meeting it was understood by a great many that copies of the rules would be given to the enrolled members. But it seems that wo members going to sea cannot get any for another fortnight. During that time onehalf of the members enrolled at the last meeting will be scattered over the colonies, and will not be back for months to come. Now if a little energy were exerted by the committee we might have them sooner. By kindly inserting these few remarks you will oblige some of the members of the Canterbury Seamen’s Union and your humble servant, SHELLBACK. April 19th, 1879.
