The immigrants have all gone to the i m migration barracks. A large gang of painters were at once sent to work painting the vessel inside and outside.

In the Supreme Court this morning the action is being beard of Travers and Duncan v Hadfield. This action is brought by the plaintiffs as trustees in the estate of the late Jas. Gilligan, to compel the defendant to complete his contract entered into with Gilligan before his death for the purchase of 1818 acres at Tawera for £ 13000. The defendant objects to completing the contract, on the grounds that the abstract of title was not delivered in the agreement. The case is proceeding. The following tenders were received at the Public Works office here for the Wanganui wharf and reclamation contract (formation only) of the Patea and Mana<vatu railway : Accepted—J. Saunders, for £23,514. Declined —Cornfoot and Stenhouse, Christchurch, for £23,897; Joseph Gibbs, Wanganui, for £;J4,572; W. Rowe, Wanganui, £24,578; D. Wilkio, Inglewood, £25,938; S. Brown, Wellington, £26,737; W. J. Bassell, Wanganui, £i6,935; Barry and McDowell, Wellington, £27,615.
Auckland, April 18. At the police court to-day David Goldaten was charged with a breach cf the Municipal Act for selling lottery tickets to throw for jewellery. The defendant is proprietor of Fatima, in which envelopes were sold at Is each. Detective Jeffry deposed to drawing a ticket. Detective Brennan also took a chance and won a pipe. The Bench inflicted a fine of 20s and costs.
