[per press agency.] Wellington, April 10. The Native Crisis. Tawhaio is in good spirits at the prospects of the approaching Native meeting of Kingites. He strongly condemns Te Whiti's action. Thos. Williams was brought up for sentence this morning for robbing .£33 from a Foresters' lodge. In consequence of certain points of law raised by Mr Fitz Gerald, his counsel, the judge deferred sentence to the next Circuit Sittings, and will, in the meantime, submit the point raised to the Court of Appeal. A meeting of ratepayers, the Mayor in the chair, having earned a resolution approving of raising a hundred thousand pounds loan for paving and curbing the streets, the Mayor announced that he would take a general poll on the subject at an early date.
[prom our own correspondent.] Oamartj, April 9,
Messrs Hislop and Shrimski, M.H.R.'s of Wataiki, have addressed their constituents. The attendance was moderate. Mr Shrimski first addressed the meeting, giving a concise account of his stewardship during last session. He was well received. Mr Hislop followed, and made an able speech. He announced himself a supporter of the three great questions advocated by the Grey Ministry, viz., manhood suffrage, land taxation, and free trade. At the conclusion of the addresses a few unimportant questions were put to the speakers, and were evidently answered to the satisfaction of the questioners. A vote of thanks and confidence iu the members was unanimously passed.
