THE KAITANGATA RELIEF FUND.

To the Editor of the Globe. Sib, —Your article of Wednesday last re the Kaitangata fund discussion in the City Council expresses the opinion of nearly the whole of the committee, as well as those outside who at all understand the case. Not only did the Council offer a gratuitous insult to the members of the Dunedin committee, but they most impertinently discussed a question which, as a, body they had no more right to discuss than the Drainage Board. The members of the City Council were a very small portion of a body of gentlemen who formed themselves into a committee to assist in raising funds, &c. Mr C. T. Ick, in very questionable taste, and without invitation or election, constituted himself the chairman of the said committee); beyond that fact the Council have no more to do with the funds raised than yourself. A sub-committee of five was appointed by resolution to wind up the affair and remit the money. Three members of this committee (which ha in my opinion been entirely ignored in the matter) are happily not connected with the City Council. But lam very much mistaken in the said sub-committee if, as soon as the funds are all in, they do not at once authorise their treasurer, W. Pratt, Esq., to to forward the money, without reservation, to the Dunedin Central Committee, b.b coming from the Ohrisfcchurch Kaitangata Pete Committee, as the result of their exertions, without any regard to the City Council or their resolution.

I am, &c, A MEMBEK OF THE COMMITTEE.
