MAGISTRATES’ COURTS
CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, April 8. (Before His Worship the Mayor of Christchurch.)
Disorderly Conduct.-— Wm. Burns was charged on the information of Inspector Hickson, with disorderly conduct in a public place. The ease was proved. Defendant admitted the offence, but pleaded that he was intoxicated. The Bench pointed out that drunkenness was no excuse, and fined defendant 10s and costs. Neglect of Duty. -- John Bell was charged on warrant with that he did unlawfully and wilfully neglect to close the points on the main line of railway at Ashburton, he being an assistant shunter. Inspector Hickson stated that prisoner had been arrested on a warrant from the Ashburton Resident Magistrate’s Court, and asked that he might bo remanded to Ashburton, where the offence occurred. The remand was granted, on the understanding that he would be brought up on the first opportunity. This concluded the criminal business before the Court.
