Tbo Wanaka will leave tor Auckland, via intermediate ports to-night; the Hawea this afternoon for Port Chalmers. The barque Bells, from Newcastle, arrived this morning. The Torea for Kaipara, Gael for Timarn, and Isabella Pratt for Oamarn, sailed this morning. The Snnheam for Newcastle, Transit for Auckland, and Edith Reid for Greymouth, cleared at the Customs to-day. The steamer Zamboanga has gone to Hong Kong. She was to leave Newcastle March 27th, for that port. CLYDE AND AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING TRADE IN 1878. The shipping engaged in the trade between the Clyde and Australian and New Zealand ports during the past year has (says the “ European Mail” ) on the aggregate been nearly equal to that of the previous year. Two more vessels arrived direct from New Zealand with grain. There wore three more vessels dispatched during 1878 than In 1877, but the aggregate tonnage is fully 2000 tons less. Messrs P. H- nderson and Co. dispatched all the ships for l '-'ew Zealand, except two small vessels, and that Arm had a regular monthly sailing for Otago. Of the fifty-three ships that sailed from the Clyde only six were steam vessels, and these were built on the Clyde for the colony. Messrs Elder and Co.’s whaler Splendid has arrived after twelve months’ cruise, with 01 tuns sperm oil. Sailed—Maori, 2.20 p.m„ for Timarn. Wanaka for the North. Bluff, April 4. The Dolly Vardon reports that the cutter Sarah Jane is supposed to have fonudered in the Straits to-day. coming over with oysters. The crew were named Charles Anderson, Henry Scanlan, and Thomas Somers. Sailed —Tararua for Melbourne. COMMERCIAL TELEGRAMS, Auckland, April 4. Mr Buckland reports the sale of 300 sacks of rye 3s Gd to O-i Od; ditto oats, 3s to 3s 2d ; maize, 3s lid; hides, 2|d per lb j sheepskins, Id to lOd. Binney and Mason report—Southern flour, 9s lOd to 11s 6d; wheat, 4s; oats, 3s 3d to 3s 9d, Dunedin, April 4. Easiness during the week has been fairly good. There has been the ordinary demand for sugars. First white, £35 to £35 10s; teas from Is 3d for medium to 2s for best. Cornsacks are selling at 7s 9d and Bs. Now Patna rice, £2O; Japan, £2O, duty paid ; candles, 9d for ordinary trade lots. A shipment of McEwan’s sold from the wharf during the week at full rates. Devoe’s kerosene, Is 2d; Noonday, Is 7d in parcels. Now Tasmanian hops arrived on the market, and have been placed at Is 4d and Is Od. Hennessy’s brandy is very firm at 345; bnlk, 9s Od to 9s 9d. Oats are in better supply at 2s 6d; wheat, 3s 3d to 3s Od for prime; barley for malting, 5s Od to 6s. Timaru, April 4. Business has been brisk during the week, though t the same time a downward tendency has been manifested in the grain market. Quotations are— Wheat 3s to 3s 3d; oats, 2s to 2s 3d; barley, 4s Od tons 3d for delivery in Timarn. Stocks of wheat and oats are accumulating on merchants’ hands, notwithstanding the heavy shipments already made, and the trade of the port has not been so lively for a long time past. There are over 4000 tons shipping in the roadstead.
