[pun PRESS AGENCY.] Auckland, April 2. Fresh tenders are invited for raising the Taupo. A writ has been issued at the saiit of Mr J. S. Macfnrlane against Mr Eees, damages being laid at JBIO.OOO. An Auckland chess club has been formed. Its first meeting will be held to-morrow. The vital statistics for Auckland for the March quarter are—Births, 374; deaths, 272 ; marriages, 100. Wellington, April 2. Governor Robinson and Sir George Grey had an interview at the Government House to-day. The Governor wid be invited to a ball at the Imperial Opera House on the 16th. Mr JS. Toomath has been appointed Commissioner of Education Reserves. [from oue own correspondents.] Kakandi, April 2. Messrs Hislop and Shrimski, the members for Waitaki in the House of Representatives, addressed their constituents in this portion of the district to-night. Mr Moody occupied the chair, and there was a very good attendance of electors. Both members referred briefly to the principal measures introduced into Parliament last session, and announced that they would give their support to the present Government. A vote of confidence in the members was unanimously carried. At the close of the formal proceedings, Capt. Matheson, on behalf of the subscribers, presented both members with a silver salver subscribed for by the residents of the district, saying that the presentation was made for the purpose of marking the appreciation of the people of the manner in which the members had labored to promote the welfare of the district, Messrs Hislop and Shrimski each suitably acknowledged their sense of the honor done them, and promised in the future to do all in their power to promote the welfare of all parts of the district they represented. Timaru, April 2. At the Board of Education to-day Mr Belfield was re-elected chairman for the year. Native game are fairly plentiful this year. Yesterday eight sportsmen bagged 200 birds at Waihoa Lagoon and its neighborhood. It is rumored that a certain member of the Harbor Board is to be taken to task for threaton-
