MAGISTRATES' COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, Maboh 26. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.) Dbune and Disobdebdy.—A first offender was fined ss. Wieb Desebtion.—Robert Daan, on remand, was charged with deserting his wife. The warrant had been issued by the Resident Magistrate at Auckland, and the defendant was arrested in Christchurch, and was now brought up on remand. Mr Inspector Hickson now produced the warrant, which has been forwarded from Auckland, and said that the defendant, in the absence of the complainant, admitted that he was the person named in it. The defendant said he was a seaman, and was only five months married. If he were sent back to Auckland, where hiß wife was, it might be weeks before he could get a ship, but in Lyttelton the chances were more in his favor. Hiß Worship ordered him to pay 10s a week for his wife's support.
