CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor of the Glooe ,

Sir, —Allow me to call the attention of the City Council, through the medium of your popular evening paper, to a very dangerous part of the River Avon. At the junction of Peterborough street with Oxford Terrace East, and immediately opposite the former, there is a deep bend cn the river, the hauls of which have lately been reclaimed and made level with the road. This was in itself a very necessary and useful work, but neither rail or chain have been erected round the dangerous part. Several have lately had narrow escapes at this place, a# the river is now, since the reclamation, very deep close to the steep banks. Of course accidents are only likely to happen after dark, but then I have often had to feel my way round this bend with a stick, foot by foot, fearing a ducking. Last Sunday, a loving couple returning from church were nearly toppling in before they discovered their danger. The young gentleman told me in the presence of the young lady, that had it not been for the reflection of the light from two stars in the water immediately under their feet, they would have taken the fatal step. I reminded him, however, that upon the night in question neither moon nor stars were visible. “ Then," he said, “ I suppose it must have been Bessie’s eyes!” Bessie blushed, and my friend scored one. But the place is dangerous for all that. Yours, iSce., NOX.
