OXFORD RACES.
[By Telegbaph.]
[from our special reporter.] Oxford, March 21
In spite of the threatening appearance of Thursday the Oxford stewards were favored with charming weather for their annual meeting to-day. The attendance was larger than has ever been the case before. The course, which since last year has been laid down in Englith grass, was in beautiful going order after the rain of the previous evening. _ The arrangements were good, but the starting was _ scarcely so punctual as usual, and nine events is almost too liberal a programme. Mr Jas. Pearson as judge, and Messrs John and Joseph Pearson as secretary and clerk of the course, carried out their duties as usual, with great success, while Mr Perham, who wielded the starter's flag for the first time, gave every satisfaction. Sport commenced with the Open Hurdle Race, which old Shark, who was in rare trim, won easily from Robin Hood. The latter, who was short of work, jumped in good form and was made the most of by Clifford, who made his debut over a country. Laddie refused several times and was never formidable. The District Hurdle Race proved a pretty easy win for Pifleman, who had no very difficult task in defeating the four opposed to him. Huntingdon defeated five others in tho Oxford Stakes, after a good race with old Manuka, who is not so young as he üßed to be. Milo was scratched, and the others were never formidable. Six saddled up for the Maiden Plate, which was won easily enough by Grasshopper, and then seven went to the post for the Oxford Cup. Huntingdon and Milo were the favorites, and the two ran a game race for the last quarter of a mile. Milo, however, just got home first by a head. Shark, who was fancied by his stable, was never in the hunt. The Ladies' Purse proved another pretty easy win for Grasshoppei, and Mr Lunn was successful both in the Crown Brewery Cup and Consolation, which he appropriated with the aid of Milo and Robin Hood respectively. Re-mlts are appended :—■ Handicap Hurdle Race, of 26 sovs; two miles ; over eight flights of hurdles. Mr T. Laddie refused, and Shark, improving the pace, passed Robin Hood coming to the turn, and led him past the stand by six lengths. They maintained these positions to the last turn, when Clifford mending the pace on Kobin Hood got nearly ou terms with the favorite at the last hurdle. The old horse's condition was foo good for Robin Hood, and though the latter finished gamely enough, fchark won easily by a length and a Lalf. Laddie, who refused several times, was not persevered with after a mile. District Hurdle Race of 15 govs ; one mile

Little Lady's bolt bolt being now shot the two raced away froin the rest of the field, and after acapital finish Milo just, secured a head verdict.
