Sydney, March 19,
Sir Hercules Robinson departed to-day for New Zealand, in H.M. corvette Emerald, accompanied by Commodore Wilson of H.M. Wolverine. Prior to his departure his Excellency held a farewell levee, which was attended by a large number of persons. A farewell address from both Houses of Par liament was presented to him. Sir Alfred Stephen assumes the position of Lieutenant-Q-overnor to-morrow.
Thousands were present to witness Q-overnor Robinson’s departure. Melbourne, March 19.
The following telegram is published in the Australian papers to-day : —Mr Pender, chairman of the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company, was entertained at dinner on the 14th. Mr Berry and the other Victorian delegates were among the guests, as were Earls Derby, Granville, Shaftesbury, the Lord Chief Justice of England, Right Hon, 0. P. Yilliers and Sir Massey Lopes, Messrs Gladstone, Lowe, John Bright, Hugh Childers, R. P. Adams, and John Holmes, M.P.’b, Sir Sydney Waterlow, and the AgentGenerals of Queensland and New South Wales. Later in the evening, there came many M.P.’s and distinguishedjpeople to meet the Premier of Victoria and Professor Pearson.

The Q-overnor and family sailed for New Zealand this afternoon. He received a tremendous ovation, and there was a great attendance at the levee.
Cooktown, March 19.
A Chinese mutiny occurred on the Sydney barque Kate Waters, and bloodshed ensued. The row was caused by the promotion of one man. The captain, first, and second officers, and a carpenter’s boy wore slaughtered and thrown overboard. The mutineers wrecked the ship at Labuan, and quarrelled over the spoil.
