Wellington, March 13. Tho City Council meet this afternoon to decide on arranging a welcome for the new Governor. About thirty persons are at work here on the land tax business. It is stated that Detective Sullivan is to be transferred to Wanganui, and Detective Warner, now at Wanganui, is to replace Sullivan at Wellington. five pounds has been awarded to Constable Mackay for his services in arresting Brown, alias Furnace, recently sentenced for larceny and having skeleton keys in his possession. Specifications in connection with the new railway wharf provide that the contract is to b« completed in nine months from the acceptance of the tenders. A breastwork i3to be constructed abutting on the reclaimed land, and the wharf is to be run out 600 feet clear of the breastwork. [from our own correspondent.] Auckland, March 13. Colonel Whitmore has accepted the offers f+ the Volunteer demonstration.
