The " Star's" sporting writer, " Nimrod," referring to the Dunedin meeting, says : " Great dissatisfaction seems to have been expressed at the striking out of Titania at the last moment, but as the owner has every right to do what he likes with his own, it is no use grumbling. However, I must say that somo rule ought to be made so that the too confiding public shall be in some measure protected. The Dunedin Champagne Stakes has received a very good entry, which shows that two-year-old races are becoming more popular. The great advantage in the two-year-old racing ii that it makes breeders take more care of their stock as foals and yearlings. ...... . I hear from very good authority that it is the intention of our new Governor to continue his support to racing, and that he has already secured a small string. His head quarters will, no doubt, be at Christchurch, and no one can blame him, as it is the head centre of racing. Auckland is too far north, and the Empire City is out of the question.
