BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The Board of Education for the district of North Canterbury held its usual fortnightly meeting yesterday at o p.m. Present —Messrs John iuglis (chairman). A. Duncan, E. C J. Stevens, A. Saunders, Webb, Rev. C. Fraser, andO. 0. Bowen. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and the busine-s done by the chairman since the lust meeting of the Board approved. RF.TI KINO ALLOWANCE. A letter wa < read from the J'.duc ition Department with reference to an application from Mr Mayo for an allowance, and asking for further info mation, wine. Mr Mayo had supplied in a letter which the Board decided to forward to the department LYTTELTON BOROUGH SCHOOL. A letter was read from (be school coimmttie, asking for an increase of the teaching power in the infant department.
i ffKST CHRISTCHwS'H. [ A letter was read from the West Christi church school committee, applying for an additional pupil teacher. The Board decided that they could cot accede to the application. ELECTION OE MEMBEi!3. The secretary reported that the three r tiring members of the Board —Messrs Montgomery, Duncan and Bowen—had been nominated and re-elected for the ensuing year. KAIAPOI ISLAND SOUTH. A letter was rend stating that the second meeting of householders had boon hold lu this district, and they had failed to elect a school committee, and suggesting the appointment of commissioner to carry on the work. 'I he Board referred the matter to the householders of tho district, f >r them to hold another meeting for tho purpose of recommend ng some pe ;s m to act us a commissioner in place of a committee. MISCELLANEOUS. A number of applications for repairs to school bail lings, small expenditures for materials, &c., were considered and dealt with. AKAROA. The Board authorised the calling for tenders for additions to this school. FERNRTDE. A plan was submitted for a new school at Ferusidc, cos disting of a schoolroom and two class r oms. The Board approved the plan, with some modifications,- and directed that tenders should be called for the building. INFANT SCHOOL. . Plana were submitted tor an infant school in connection with the Normal School, to be erected at the extremity of the latter facing Montreal street. '1 he plans were laid on the table, and their consideration postponed until the next meeting of the Board. normal school. The Board Went into committee for the consideration of matters in connection with the Normal School, and subsequently adiourned.
