SOUTH TOWN BELT.
To the Editor of the Globe. Sib,—ln your issue of Monday evening I noticed that'there was a local making some remarks on the dirty ptate of the South Town Belt side channel, and stating that the authorities ought to see to it. Do you happen to know who the responsible authorities are ? If you do I wish you would let me know, for that knowledge would be a great gain. But, Sir, do not misunderstand me. I do not mean the authority that collects the rates—that authority and the authority that does does anything in return for them are two distinct bodies—at least it is so on the South Town Belt. Of course I have from time to time seen how G-eorge has told Bob to go and see Charlie and tell him to come and see Q-eorge, so that the proper levels of this great south channel might be arrived at. At the same time I have seen Sanitary standing on tiptoe and declaring that if Charlie and Q-eorge did not arrange the matter he would. But nothing comes of all this. Such being the case, I suppose the only thing to be done is to wait while these individuals air their pet propensities, spend our money in other parts; and bestow on us dead dogs, dirty water, and mud.
