[PKE PEEOB AGENCY.] Elopement in High Life. Auckland, February 27. The youngest of the Maori King’s three wives having had a quarrel with her lord over certain supposed delinquences of her ladyship with on® of his Majesty’s fubjects, eloped. The Imperial tjonsort, accompanied by a sable maid of honor, reached Ohaupo station, and came on to Auckland by railway. A pursuit was organised, the pair were tracked, and the Queen was ultimately discovered regaling herself on toffy in Queen street. It is reported that the Inspectorship of Police is promised in the event of the return of ft certain candidate being secured for City West. Both candidates are working hard. Referring to the difference in the Cabinet on Mr Luckie's appointment, the “ Herald ” says: —“lt would be indeed quite ridiculous if there should be a break-up over such a matter as this, where merely a departmental office is concerned, and which involves no question of general policy. So far as it appears, the Premier ought to yield for the appointment was formally made." Blenheim, February 27. At a committee meeting of the Acclimatisation Society it was resolved that the portion of the Marlborough Provincial district north of tie Wairau river, known as the Picton electoral district, should be proclaimed open from Ist prd to 31st May, for shooting Californian quail and pheasants (cocks only).
