NATIVE MATTERS IN TARANAKI.

[By Telegraph.] [prom our own correspondent.] New Plymouth, February 24. Native matters of late have been interesting and peaceful. Many Maoris from the North visited this district during harvest and assisted in saving the crops. The local Maoris and those living in Hawera and Waimate districts have been busy saving their own grass seed and grain, and are now selling their produce, making the town quite lively. From twelve to sixteen thousand aores of the Waimate Plains are now surveyed for sale, but are not yet apparently to be put in the market. Maori women have lately destroyed the fhgs and pegs put in by the surveyors in the inland part of the plain. This is probably their mode of bringing to an issue the question of reserves, which they are anxious should be settled before the land is finally dealt with for sale.

Te Whiti says the relations of the races are peaceful. The big March meeting, about which to much has been said, appears to fade away af the time draws near.
