Nosth Cantebbuev Races.— A meeting of persons interested in these races was held at Boberts’s Club Hotel, Rangiora, on Tuesday evening. There was a good attendance. Mr GK Cone was voted to the chair. Mr R. Aherne, secretary and treasurer, read a statement of accounts, showing a balance in hand of £7O. A letter was read from Captain Parsons, president of the club, apologising for his absence, and stating that this year he would not undertake to accept any office. The latter announcement was received with regret, as Captain Parsons had been one of the chief supporters of the races, and it was resolved that Messrs Cone, King, and Roberts form a deputation wait upon him with a view to inducing him to reconsider his decision. The stewards appointed last year were re-elected, with some additional names. Mr W. Buss was elected judge, Mr C. G. King starter, Mr J. Lilly clerk of the course, Mr J. Wheeler clerk of the scales, Mr R. Aherne secretary and treasurer. It was decided that a race ball be held in the Literary Institute on Easter Monday, after the races are over. The meeting then adjourned for a fortnight. UNCLE SAM’S PAWN OFFICE.
