She left for Wellington this afternoon The s.s. Eingnrooina arrived at eight o clock this morning from Wellington. She wonld sail for'Melbourne via the South and Hobart Town at three O’ clockthis afternoon. . The barque Italy, Captain Brown, from Hobart Town, was beiug towed iu by the Titan last evening when our express left port. She cleared at Hobart Town February sth, so has made a good run aC| rhe Sea Bird, brigantine. Captain Smith, arrived yesterday from Havelock. . , , ' The brigantine Circe arrived on Sunday night, five days from Bluff. Captain Alexander reports meeting with light north-east and norther.y winds until Saturday evening, then S. and S. W. winds round the Peninsula to anchorage off the BreakW Tha'barqno Australian Sovereign arrived yesterday. after a fine run of forty-two hours from Bluff. Captain Berry reports fine weather and strong southerly winds along the Coast. THE CHILE, FEOM LONDON. The barque reported iu the shipping news yestorday as being signalled on Sunday night, proved to be the above vessel, 105 days from London. with twenty-five passengers all well, and a full General cargo, about 400 tons ot which is for the Huff. Her long passage is explained by the continuons succession of light winds met with, ana.the fact of the vessel beiug deeply laden. Her best day’s work on the voyage was 222 miles. She is an old trader to the colonies as a representative of Messrs Shaw, Savill and Oo.*s line, and has an excellent reputation for being a handy barque for freight as well as a comfortable vessel to travel m. On the present voyage, her first to Lyttelton, the second-class passengers occupied the saloon, there beiug no first-class passengers. Particulars of her cargo and a list of passengers are given elsewhere. Captain Culbert, iu command, visited this port some years ago in the Eohert Henderson. He was last in the Dover Castle. The following is his report of the voyage:—UfD Gravesend November 2nd had fresh N.E. winds down the Channel, passed the Lizards on the 14th, the wind favoring us until crossiug the Bay. Picked up the N.E. trades in lot. 29 • they were extremely light. Fell in with S.E. trades in 1 N„ and crossed the line same day, December 4th. the south-east trades also proved light and were well to the southward ; they held to 27 S., and were followed by light airs from the N.N.E. and calms to the Cape, the meridian of which was crossed January 2nd, twenty-nine days from the line and sixty-one from Gravesend. Got westerlies four days afterwards, January 6th, but they had little strength iu them. Ban down the easting between the 4isth and 46th parallel; saw no icebergs; made the Snares on tne 10th instant, and light variable winds to the Otago Heads, January 14th. On Sunday momiug at eight o’clock was off the Peninsula, and came into port with a fresh S.S.W. breeze, anchoring at 7.30 p.m. Spoke no vessels bound to the colonies.
