THE WAR AT THE CAPE.
[By Submarine Cable.] [special to press agency.] Adelaide, February 17. The steamer Garonne brings Cape news to the 27th January. Despatches had been published from General Lord Chelmsford, stating that his third column had sustained a loss at Camp Stendal, which the Zulus attacked. They completely blocked the British tents, wagons, and oxen, and also attacked the commissariat station, which was, however, gallantly defended. Latest news states that Major Dartwell, commandant at Stendal, had engaged and defeated the enemy with a trifling loss. Cape papers give the news relative to the disaster to the British at Parke’s Drift. The troops consisted of five companies of the 24th Kegiment, two Runs, artillery, and native troops, The details of the catastrophe are wanting.
