THE CITY COUNCIL.
To the Editor of the Globe,
SIR,—I was pleased to read your article in Tuesday’s issue re the special meeting of the City Council held on Monday evening. It appears to me quite time to see if something cannot be done to prevent such exhibitions in future. The Council, as at present constistituted, appears to me unlikely to alter its tone of discussion, and I would suggest that, in view of the general elections in September next, when the ward system comes into operation, that an influential committee be appointed to select a better class of men to represent our interests and to set to work with a will to canvass the town properly to secure their return, and thus end the disgraceful scenes that we are accustomed to. Perhaps you will give the idea a lift in your paper. Yours, &0., RATEPAYER. Christchurch, Feb. 12th, 1879.
