' The contractor has notified that the sixty ton steam crane for the harbor works is now ready at Christchurch, and i • is expected to be deli- J vered within a fortnight. The works will then ' be pushed on lupidly. * The fir&t meeting of the Milf rd Harbor Board and a meeting of the newly elected Timaru Harbor Board takes place to-imrrow. '< The Levels Koad Board, at a meeting to-day, ' objected to the chairman sitting on both Harbor < Boards, and gave a strong hint to him to resign from the Mi I ford one. ] The Levels Board have decided to dispense ' with the fervices of the engineer, as, owing to the dropping of the land fui d, their funds are not so a pie as formerly. Mr Macandrew arrives here to-morrow, and ' will remain one hour, during which he will be J i terviewed by various publi s bodies regarding I new railway station, railway tariff, court house • accommodation, etc. A man named Edward Greig had his arm ' nearly cut off by a circular saw at Clayton's ' sawmill. Kev. Mr Roseby lectured on the Chinese ques- ' tion to a large attendance to-night. The general feeliug here on the subject is adverse to any j prohibitory legislatio • on Chinese immigration To-day the following members of the Timaru l Harbor Board were elected :—Mr R. F. >ray, ' by the Temuka Road Boa d ; Mr W, Beswick, ' by the Levels Board; Mr W. Moody by the \ Wwmate County, and Mr W. Evans by the ] Chamber of Commerce. ? Invehcabgill, February 10. At a meeting of Volunteers on Saturday, it * was resolved to initi *te a fund for a Volunteer ' demonstration here on Easter Monday, and invite companies so ith of Amberley. A con- ! siderable sum of money is already on hand, and ' a requisition is in circulat on requesting the ' Mayor to call a public meeting on the subject.
