AQUATICS.

The junior double-scull race between the Canterbury and Union Rowing Clubs, was pulled off on Friday evening. The event caused a great amount of keen interest, and a large number of boating men attended to witness the contest, which terminated with the following results : C.R.C.—Moa (north bank)—J. Grierson (stroke): E. M. Boulton (bow); J. Laurie (cox) ••• ••• 1 U.R C —Una (south bank)—J. T. Smith (stroke); W. M. Joynt (how); E. Manning (cox) ... ••• ••• ••• 2 Mr Jones got the boats away splendidly together from Pratt’s, and a grand race ensued up the straight, each boat alternately leading by a few feet. At the bathing place, the Una, having the advantage of the inside of the turn, drew away and gained a lead of nearly a length. Stimulated by the shouts of those on the bank, Grierson quickened his stroke, and on reaching Cowlishaw’s was again on even terms with the Una. Hdving inside place at this corner, the Moa drew away, and on reaching Stanmore bridge was leading by a length. From thence the CR 0. crew held and increased their lead, and won as they liked by about three clear lengths. The winning crew rowed in capital form, and the losers were not far behind in this respect. Towards the finish the Union men got rather short, but never once relaxed their game efforts to get ahead of their opponen’s. The foi roar race b'tween the married and single members of the committee of the C.R.C. is fixed for Saturday next.. This event is looked forward to with a great deal of interest. Both crows are in active training, and doing their best to come to the poet fit and well. The Benedicts had a pull to New Brighton on Saturday afternoon in the Tyne, and, after a bit of a rest, manned their boat again and pulled home in good time without a spell. The Bachelors were doing steady work during the week, but did not make their appearance together on the river on Saturday. The crews are so evenly matched that at present it is hard to predict which will bo the favorites, but what little advantage there is is certainly on the single men’s side. The following are the names of the crews :

MARRIED. SINGLE. J. 0. Jones, stroke L. M. Oilivier, stroke T. Taylor, No. 3 J. K. Brewster, No. 3 A. H. Pavitt, No. 2 Collins, No. 2

E. J. Paul, how J. R. Evans, bow On the 21st inst. there will be a series of scratch double scull races in connection with the C.RC., for which twelve crews have already entered.
