WELLING I ON RACES
By Telegraph.]
[per press agency.] Wellington, February 6. Tbe Hutt racecourse gives every indication that the races will be more largely attended than on any previous year. The 10 o’clock train from tbe railway station was a spectacle in itself. When starting there were not fewer than twenty carriages, and trucks included. All were densely packed. There could not have been leas than six or seven hundred people. The second-class carriages were marked first, and the cattle truck were converted into second-class. A variety of little evidences of foresight on tbs part of railway officials showed that they anticipated, and endeavored to provide, for the convenience of the travellers. As an Instance of this it might be observed that some of the trucks had awniugs over them, apparently for the convenience of the ladies who were too late to obtain seats in the proper carriages. Tbe cool north-west breeze and cloudy sky being suggestive of rain, large numbers of people were provided with umbrellas and overcoats. Despite tbe crowding on tbe various trains, the road was crowded with vehicles. hurdle race. Agent 1 Harkaway ... ... 2 TeWhetu 3 MAIDEN RACE. Merlin ... 1 King Quail 2 Undine... 3 Time —2tnin.
