The Canny Scot left Newcastle for here on the 24th nit., and the Adelphoi hence arrived there on that date. The Southern Cross sailed for here on the 25th. m The Spnrrowhawk, from Trinity Bay, Queensland, reports a reef not marked on the chart lust outside the line of soundings, fifteen miles N.E. of Cape Bowling Green Lighthouse.—Melbourne “ Argus." . . Tbe steamer Southern Cross came into port yesterday from Gore Bay, after lying off there since Friday last awaiting an opportunity to land her cargo. The outlook at 8a m. yesterday, tbe time she left, being unfavorable, she returned. The s.s. Wakatipu arrived from Wellington and Sydney at half-past four o’clock yesterday afternoon, with, fifty-five passengers for Lyttelton, and about 100 tons of cargo. Mr Ponsonby, her purser, reports :—Left Sydney on Wednesday, 29th, at 7 p.m., and arrived at Wellington on Monday evening at. six; left again on Tuesday evening at half-past five, and had fine weather to Wellington ; thence strong head winds and heavy sea. She sailed last night for Port Chalmers. The barque signalled last evening when our port despatch left proved to be the Stag, Captain Ross, bound from Kaiapnrn to Titnaru with timber. She left Kaipara on the 2hid nit., arrived at Timaru on the 30th, was driven off by a S.W. gale, stood in on Monday last, and when within sight of the heads was signalled to keep off. Some of the timber having got adrift she pnt in here to secure it. ship Hurunni will leave for the Bluff to load for Loudon ns soon ns the eighty or ninety tons of wheat to be put into her for stiffening are aboard, probably to-day.
