She has one passeuger, Mrs Downing. The barque Waratah, from Hobart Town, 23rd nit., arrived yesterday at 3.30 p.m. Capt. McArthur reports having a S.E. breeze to passing Cape Pillar, then a S.W. wind to the Snares on Thursday last, when it increased to a gale, continning for eighteen hours. Sighted Akaroa Heads on Friday, and made the Peninsula at 4 a.m. on Saturday, thence N.E. anchorage. SHIPWRECK ON THE NINTY MILE BEACH. A schooner named the Clyde, belonging to Sydney, left Oamarn on the 31st ult. with a cargo of wheat and flour, bound for Auckland. The crew consisted of the master (Captain Bishop) and six seamen ; she also had one passenger on board. The fierce south westerly gale that was blowing drove her on shore at Tarautu, near Southbridge. At 11*..1. foai .1 «o»o ontontuiuod Of llic safety of nil on board, as when the wreck was discovered the vessel was deserted. By a telegr'm received by Mr Inspector Hickson yesterday, from Sergeant Barlow, at Southbridge, it transpires that the captain, with the crew and passenger, landed in Long Bay, Akaroa. on Saturday. It is not stated in the telegram by what means they escaped, but it is presumed by the boats, as uone were found when the ship was boarded. The cargo of the vessel is undamaged, and it is stated there is no likelihood of her breaking up. The Clyde i 3 owned by Mr Frank Guy, of Batesman Bay, Now South Wales, and is insured for £SOO in tho Oamarn branch of the South British Insurance Company, and is supposed to be fmther secured in Australian offices. There was also an insurance on the cargo in New Zealand and other offices. Writing on the same snbject our Leeston correspondent further states tiiat when tho vessel was beached on Saturday she was seized by some fishermen at daybre>k, and Serjeant Barlow at once communicated with, who hurried to the scene of the wreck as soon as possible, where ho remained until our correspondent left. The vessel has sustained but little injury, being perfectly upright, and embedded in tho shingle broadside on to tho beach between high and low water mark. The only serious damage was done to the topmast, which was snapped by the force of tho concussion. It is expected that very little difficulty will be experienced in floating her at high water, provided proper precautions are taken to prevent her drifting further on to the loose shingle at flood tide.
