AUCKLAND REGATTA.

[By Telegraph.] Auckland, January 29. To-day, Anniversary Bay, was observed as a general holiday. The regatta was a great success, and there was a fine breeze for sailing vessels. The schooner race round Tiri-Tiri was a splendid sight. Eight vessels started. In starting the smaller boats went away with the lead, but when out in the broken water the schooners Myrtle, Transit, T< rea, and Albatross went to the front, and held leading positions. After an exciting race, in which the capabilities of the vessels were thoroughly tested, they passed the flag-ship in the following order: — Transit (sh. 32min 25secs.), first; I 1 ore a (sh. 35min. 25secs.), second; Adah (sh. 52min. 19secs.), th'rd; Reward (6h. 3min. 45secs.) fourth; Albatross (6h. 4min. 41secs ), fifth ; Myrtle (6h. smin. 30secs.). sixth. The Adah being a very small vessel, will probably take the prize when time for tonnage is allowed. The Cutter race round the same course, first prize, .£35, was won by Harris’ Fannie, beating the Sovereign of the Seas by two minutes, Rangatira third, and Lizzie fourth. In the race for Trading Vessels of 25 tons and under, the Wanderer was first, and the Mary second. Seven started. The race for Yachts of from 6 to 15 tons, first prize .£2O, fell to the Phoenix, the Sabina being second. For the Sailing Boats race fifteen started, but when they rounded one of the buoys, several collided, and two, the Siss and Daisy, were sunk, and the Toy had her mainsail ripped, putting her out of the race. The race was won by Jones’ Alerte, the Yolante second, and the Brothers third. The race for Open Sailing Boats under 20 tons was won easily by Way mouth’s Foam. This boat was brought miles overland from Kaipara to compete. There was very little interest in the rowing matches. The Ships’ Gig race was won by the crew of the Marvel, the James Wishart second, and the M*y Queen third.
