CANTERBURY v. SOUIH TASMANIA. As the Eotorua was to call at Hobart Town, a one day's match was arranged with the South Tasmanian Association, but unfortunately owing to an adverse fog coming on, she did not arrivo until nearly two o'clock in the afternoon instead of at 8 a.m. The passage was not of the smoothest and nearly all the team were ill, and not in a fit state to play. Nevertheless, as arrangements had been made, the captain did not like to disappoint the local players ; so after a little refreshment the visitors were driven to the ground, which is on the brow of a hill, long leg on each aide being perfectly hidden from the view of any one on the opposite side of the wicket. The wicket itself, however, played well. Neilson won the toss and took the field, thinking hia team would have moro chance of recovering. Davies and Boddam acted first on the defensive, bringing the total to 25, when both players wero dismissed, the former being bowled by 0. Frith, and the latter playing one on. Walki r and Martin were the only others who mude any stand, the former playing well for his 27, but was missed by Neilson when he had scored 11. Martin was easily stumped by Fowler off Neilson. The last, wicket fell for 87. Canterbury then went in and commenced well with Ollivier and Ashby, although it was evident that neither batsman was in form ; 54 wa3 the result of the first wicket, Ollivier's, but after this a complete collapse took place, the rest of the eleven only making 26 between them, leaving the local team victors by six runs. Bayley, a fast bowler, was very destructive after the first two wickets fell. He bowled Watson, C. Frith, and Mac Donnell with three consecutive balls. After the match the visitors were very hospitably entertained by the local players, and were afterwards driven about the town to see as much of the place as possible before the steamer sailed.
