AUCKLAND GRAMMAR SCHOOL.
[S|>cc;istl Wire.] Auckland, January 25. Strong dissatisfaction is expressed with the management of Auckland College and Grammar School. The head master is brother-in-law to one governor, and other- are in a clique, who form a majority Instead of the examiners’ reports being published they Lave been referred to the head ma ter, so that he may dispose of any accusation of negligence or shortcomings. The Hoard also neglected to comply with the terms of the Act by forwarding a full and accurate report of receipts, disbursements, assets, liabilities, and engagements to the Minister of Education. The annual receipts from fees amount to .£I6OO, paid by two hundred pupils at eight guineas each. No one knows how this money is expended. There have been no exhibitions or scholarships provided, and there were only nine undergraduates for A uckland last year, while Otago produced twenty-nine, Canterbury twenty, and Wellington fourteen. The Board now proposes to build a palatial college, costing .£OOOO, having only £SOOO voted by Parliament. They propose to rake the balance on interest, pledging the current receipts. The Board seriously proposed asking for Government House for a college and grammar school, thus exciting general ridicule.
