Passengers—Miss Alloway, The signal Hag for a barque hound in, coming sonth, was hoisted at the signal station as our messenger left Port. It is hoped she is the Jasper from Glasgow. The brigantine Mary Bammtyne, from Hokitika, arrived yesterday morning with a cargo of timber and eighteen passengers. Captain Smith reports the loss of a passenger named Foster overboard. Iho circumstances as recorded in the vessel s log book will bo found related in another column. Mr George Mackay, her agent, states the Steamer Southern Cross was to leave Auckland on Friday for Lyttelton calling at intermediate ports. She will probably he here on Wednesday, retnrmg to Auckland by same route shortly after arrival. The tine schooner Croydon Lass, Mr G. Mackay, agent, arrived on Saturday from Waitapu with a cargo of timber as per import memoranda. Captain Curran reports having left Waitapu on the night of the 12th iust. with alight wind from the southward, which fell to a calm in a few hours ; had a succession of light airs and calms until near the heads when a fresh N.E. wind sprang up continuing until arr'on Saturday morning as the brigantine Circe was swinging from the transporting buoy off Peacock s wharf, intending to drop into the Annie s berth she collided with the barque John Knox, slightly damaging that vessel and carrying away her own jibboom.in addition to other injuries to her rigging, etc.
