General Roberts has decided to garrison the fortress of Khost, and provision it for two months. St, Petersburg, January 13. An Imperial ukase announces the appoint* ment of Commissioners to consider means of reducing public expenditure. [SPECIAL TO PBES9 AGENCY.] London, January 11. Money is plentiful. The demand for discounts is slack. Bank minimum unchanged. Three months’ bills, 4 per cent. The Bank reserve is steadily rising, and is now over ten and a half millions. The Bank of England advanced the Government throe and a half millions. The stock market is easy. Consols are rising, the present quotation being 95J. Australian securities are remarkably firm. The following message was received at 3.25 a.m:— London, January 13. New Zealand Fives, 10Q. The November mail was delivered. London, January 14, The Frenchman, Maddin, who threatened to shoot the Queen, is under detention in Broadmoor prison. The distress amongst the operatives in the manufacturing districts is increasing.
