The match against the South Melbourne Club was commenced to-day, on the club’s ground. Canterbury having won the toss was the first to go to the wickets. The wicket played splendidly. Ollivier played a fine innings of 27. Cooper, who is a slow round bowler, was very effective, and the Canterbury men only succeeded in obtaining 00 runs. For the Soutk Melbourne, Baker made the tremendous score of 105 in fine form, hitting the bowling about freely. Woolf and Major also played capital innings.
