The Canterbury team commenced the match against the Melbourne Club to-day. The weather was fine, but the heat intense. Canterbury lost the toss, and the Melbourne men took the wickets. Alexandor, who made seventy-seven for the Melbourne players, batted in fine form. Lee and W. Frith bowled excellently for Canterbury, but the fielding of the team was scarcely so good as it might have been, a circumstance which is in some measure to be accounted for by the unusual heat which thoy were called upon to bear.
