THE GLADSTONE ELECTION.

[prom the correspondents of the press.] Timaru, January 3.
Mr Buckingham, who was the only other candidate besides Mr Studholme nominated yesterday for tho Gladstone constituency, has retired from the contest. Mr Studholme is therefore elected. He is a strong opponent of the Grey Ministry.
