Nbw Yeae's Sebvioe. —Tho usual NewTear's Day service will be held in St. Andrew's Church to-morrow at 8 a.m. Watch Night Sebvioe.—At 10.30 this evening a watch-night service will be held in the Methodist Free Church, St. Asaph street, conducted by the Rev S. Maciarlane. Meeung of Milkmen.—A numerously attended meeting of the milk vendors of Ohristchurch was held last evening at the G-olden Age Hotel, at which, after some discussion, it was agreed to increase the retail price of milk from 4d to 5d per quart, the advance to dato from to-morrow, January Ist. The scarcity of grass is the alleged reason that renders this rise in price necessary, but it is broadly hinted by those likely to suffer by the change that scarcity of water has also something to do with it. R.M. Coubt.—Two cases of little general interest were heard and determined yesterday in tho Resident Magistrate's Court too late for notice in our isßue of yesterday. In one of these James Lane, charged with assaulting Alfred Wilson at Yaldhurst on December the sth, was fined 20a with 25s costs, and the other, a charge of cruelty to animals, was adjourned until this morning for the production of a witness whose evidence was deemed important. HOLIDAY. —To afford the staff employed upon the paper an opportunity for koeping holiday on Now Year's Day, according to time honored custom, the Globe will not be issued to-morrow ovening. Retieed fbom the Bench.—Dr. Donald, R.M., Lyttelton, took his leave of the officers of the Court at the close of business this morning, stating that it was the last time he would officiate as magistrate, being about to retire. The public generally will fully participate in the feeling of regret expressed by the officers present in the Court when his Worship bade them farewell. It has not transpired whom the Government will appoint as his successor.
