HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The usual meeting of the above Board was held yesterday at the hospital at 3 p.m. Present—Mr H. Thomson (chairman), Mr J. E. Brown, the Mayors of Lyttelton, Christchurch, and Sydenham. A letter was read from the Railway Department, stating that they would pay towards the expenses of the two apprentices in the hospital. Tenders for the supply of bread to the hospital were opened, and that of Messrs. Farrar and Somers for 5d per 41b loaf accepted, on the motion of the Mayor of Lyttelton, seconded by the Mayor of Christchurch. The Mayor of Christchurch suggested that tho house steward should be instructed to weigh the bread when delivered by the contractors. The Chairman instructed the house steward to weigh the bread in bulk on receipt. The Chairman reported that £l4 9s had been received for accounts for maintenance due previous to 30th June. The house surgoon's report was submitted, showing 22 admissions during the week. Six were refused for various causes. The report of the house steward was read. The number of discharges were reported as being ten, with three deaths. The amount received during the week was £4 lis. The House Steward reported that several presents of fruit had been made to the hospital during the week, also £1 for library fund, and a parcel of books. The Steward was instructed to purchase potatoes for the use of the hospital weekly. A report was read from Mr Sopp, stating that he had taken the children of the Orphanage for a holiday to the Foresters' Fete, which was highly appreciated by them. Mr Sopp also stated that the public had responded to the appeal most liberally, and that after defraying the extra cost of Christmas and New Year's.festivities, he had still a balance of from £l2 to £ls to carry forward to the recreation fund for the year. Mr Brown brought before tho Board the case of a patient suffering from asthma, who had been advised by one of the staff to bo forwarded to Auckland. The Chairman said the matter had been referred to the staff to report upon, but they had not done so. The Mayor of Christchurch thought it would be as well to write to the Auckland Hospital authorities, asking upon what terms they would receivo patients for whom change of air was deemed desirable. He would move—" That a letter be written by the secretary to the Auckland Hospital authorities, asking whether they would bo willing to take any pationts which it may be deemed necessary to send for change of air, the Christchurch authorities reciprocating." Mr Brown seconded the motion, which was agreed to. The house surgeon sent in a requisition for a night nurse in ward No. 6. On the motion of tho Mayor of Sydenham it was resolved that Dr. Chilton engage a night nurse as requested by him. Mr March reported that there were six inmates in the Akaroa Hospital. The Board then adjourned until 2 p.m. on Monday next.
